RainbowAlert

RainbowAlert

My Role: UI/UX Designer

Problem Statement: Design a new phone app that can alert users to the possible presence of a rainbow in their area.  Design is to be used to interest investors in further development of the app as iPhone and Android products with free and premium tiers.

Research: Interviewed app creator to understand requirements for app development and desired user experience. Conducted research into how similar app users like to be notified.  Interviewed atmospheric scientist to determine how to use publicly available internet data to generate rainbow probability functions.

Ideation: Generated app concept with two unique types of data products.  The first product reads the user’s GPS location, looks up a rainbow probability function at that location, and sends a push notification (e.g., SMS text message) to device if the probability exceeds a user-selectable value.  The second product provides zoomable maps of rainbow probability functions, which allow a user to determine if a rainbow is visible from a nearby location. All of this is contained in an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
